Politics and mob rule.
Not written much this week, as you can see.
Deaths recorded have gone up to about 200 - 55 was just a week-end blip. There is a drive to reduce distancing to 1 metre so that schools are more likely to open. After all Cheshire Oaks, Chester Zoo and the Safari Park are allowed to open now. Suggestions for 'Nightingale' schools, extra portacabins and asking recently-retired teachers to come back to help could work as well for education as the similar plan for NHS.
Went to the plot and P had fun with the new cordless strimmer. A had baked a lovely cake which we shared for elevenses. Need bags of compost to earth the spuds some more.
J. put his hand down on the tree trunk and a 5-spotted ladybird ran over his hands and on to his jumper. He was entranced. Then P put it on the broad beans to eat any blackfly.
Logs came on Wednesday. I helped for half the pallet the Pp came (with A + J) and did the rest.
No exercise video today!
Shopping Thursday, then to Helen's to collect a couple more of the masks. Jill had seen P's and asked for one. Took 2 to A's for them, as from Monday we all have to wear a mask on public transport.
Email from Jackie about opening the Market. Might try one in July, inside the hall where distancing will be easier. Also easier, would be if customers can order in advance so it can be priced and bagged for collection or delivery.
No eggs, though. Makes things complicated. We are seriously considering a card reader so little cash is involved.
The news has been full of the 'Black Lives Matter' since the death in custardy of a man in Minniapolis USA. Demonstrations everywhere, social distancing forgotten, masks rare. Virus doesn't have a moral stance, doesn't care about politics. But if there are a large number of vulnerable (especially ethnic) people gathering, it has an opportunity to raise the death toll.
Demonstrators become rioters and statues to notable (albeit with doubtful business interests) figures are tumbled down. Some are simple defaced, with no thought to what they did in life and now have to be boarded up. Perhaps they did acquire fortunes from trading slaves, but many were also philanthropic.
And that was then.
Please put events in to historical context and don't judge them by today's standards. No knee-jerk reactions but consultation with those who feel they have an interest.
Some tolerance and compromise, please.
