Dip and cream

So this is Thursday and predicted to be the hottest day of the year so far - certainly feels hot and a bit muggy. Not really a day to do the tomato+basil dip, but having started it yesterday, has to be finished today. Have also made some cherry rock cakes and lemonade with the lemons I bought last week.



Coal arrived, without the warning email, so had to curtail phone call to Doreen and sort space. P had gone to Morrisons and had tidied to shed last week, so easy to do (not that the stacking was done to his standards, but re-arranged easily.)
P took shopping to A's and she gave him some more cream for my arm. Tues night/wed morning it was really itchy and swollen, and I have been covering it with lavender oil - will have to get some more. So now I can use the cream. Swelling has gone down some, but still itchy. Irritation is a terrible thing.

Bottles for the dip arrived yesterday so have loads. Will try the Thai experiment at the week-end. Will also try to do the Strawberry and rhubarb jam.
Rosemary sent an email to say the redcurrants are ready and do I want some?
Yes, please! But when to pick them? Rain (and maybe thunderstorms) are forecast.

 Every day was Sunday, for a while. But now my ginger perfume has come, so we are back to just one a week. Vaccinations are going apace, but variants ooze across the country. The South African is a concern because there are some cases with no obvious contacts with the continent. Tonight they announced another variant in Liverpool. Is this just what a virus does? The more it replicates, the more likely a change will be? Or could it be the virus trying to survive, perhaps if one has the virus (asymptomatically) when vaccinated, it has a chance to fight back. Also discussions on when to re-open the Market. 6th March seems to be favourite. By then most producers will have had their jab and will feel happier about meeting the public. We have had a holiday!  We went with A and J to Laugharne (Wales) for a week's self-catering at the Dylan Resort. It was fab, an old-fashioned holiday of kite-flying, sand castles, paddling and shell collecting. There were cream teas, fish and chips and ice cream. Lots of walking, laughing and appreciation for the fabulous views.  Even a castle! The only downside was the 4 - 5 hour journey to get there (and back again!). Next Monday will be the next phase of the governments 'road map'. We can meet indoors (rule of six) and outdoors in groups of up to 30. Cinemas and museums, theatres and soft play centres will also be able to open. B and B's  and hotels and hospitality in general will give a resounding cheer as they will be allowed to serve food and drink inside.  There will be other guidelines to do with care homes and personal contact (ie hugging!) but details will come slowly over this week. Are all days the same?

Somehow lost a day - convinced today was Thursday then checked if there was anything worth watching on the tele tonight (more in hope than expectation). Gardeners World? Surely that's not till tomorrow? So tomorrow is today and we had to gallop down to the chemist to collect a script, the shop not always open on a Saturday! Did the shopping this morning - no wonder the queues were longer that expected. Bought a dine-in and some prawns while P. went to Asda for the boring stuff. Also got a few things for A. Pulled up some excess lemon balm and trimmed the lavender and potted them on. Might take, might not. Lavender cuttings from last year re-potted yesterday and seem fine. Have put them along the newly-defined path in pots. Emailed T/S. Hope he's keeping okay. Will email R. at some point too. News yesterday was an extension of lockdown for another 3 weeks.
