Blowing out candles by zoom

There has been a full and quite pink moon this week. Quite big on the horizon then diminishing as it crosses the sky. Stars are brighter. Less pollution?

J's birthday today. Zoom at the ready, singing Happy Birthday from isolation, crossing countries as loved ones donned their party hats. Perhaps even cake.

Dug up the old pear tree and cleared the square. P. bought some more compost so have spread some and will transplant crocosmias tomorrow, as long as it isn't raining.
Blackbirds a bit calmer today, also robins in garden. Think wrens nesting in yucca?
Flowers opening on rowan in front garden. P. trimmed hedge.

Takeaway (Indian) for tea. I am hungry.

Jabs and jobs

 Every day was Sunday, for a while. But now my ginger perfume has come, so we are back to just one a week. Vaccinations are going apace, but variants ooze across the country. The South African is a concern because there are some cases with no obvious contacts with the continent. Tonight they announced another variant in Liverpool. Is this just what a virus does? The more it replicates, the more likely a change will be? Or could it be the virus trying to survive, perhaps if one has the virus (asymptomatically) when vaccinated, it has a chance to fight back. News from Willaston - the clergy seem to be moving on after Easter. Mrs. Vicar was a promising baker, we will miss her. Also discussions on when to re-open the Market. 6th March seems to be favourite. By then most producers will have had their jab and will feel happier about meeting the public. We have had a holiday!  We went with A and J to Laugharne (Wales) for a week's self-catering at the Dylan Resort. It was fab, an old-fashioned holiday of kite-flying, sand castles, paddling and shell collecting. There were cream teas, fish and chips and ice cream. Lots of walking, laughing and appreciation for the fabulous views.  Even a castle! The only downside was the 4 - 5 hour journey to get there (and back again!). Next Monday will be the next phase of the governments 'road map'. We can meet indoors (rule of six) and outdoors in groups of up to 30. Cinemas and museums, theatres and soft play centres will also be able to open. B and B's  and hotels and hospitality in general will give a resounding cheer as they will be allowed to serve food and drink inside.  There will be other guidelines to do with care homes and personal contact (ie hugging!) but details will come slowly over this week. Media people are still talking in cliches - back to normal, the new norma...

Are all days the same?

Somehow lost a day - convinced today was Thursday then checked if there was anything worth watching on the tele tonight (more in hope than expectation). Gardeners World? Surely that's not till tomorrow? So tomorrow is today and we had to gallop down to the chemist to collect a script, the shop not always open on a Saturday! Did the shopping this morning - no wonder the queues were longer that expected. Bought a dine-in and some prawns while P. went to Asda for the boring stuff. Also got a few things for A. Pulled up some excess lemon balm and trimmed the lavender and potted them on. Might take, might not. Lavender cuttings from last year re-potted yesterday and seem fine. Have put them along the newly-defined path in pots. Emailed T/S. Hope he's keeping okay. Will email R. at some point too. News yesterday was an extension of lockdown for another 3 weeks.
